Coffee lovers and those who frequently host friends at their homes know the struggle of keeping their cups organized. Whether it's a lack of counter space or simply the tendency to knock everything over, finding a solution to keep cups tidy is just another everyday problem I’ve now taken the time to analyze. One solution is to create a custom cup organizer that can hold cups, lids, and cardboard sleeves all in one place.

To design the organizer, I start by sketching out the layout. The cups, which are the tallest item, should be placed in the back and nest onto one another to create a taller stack. The lids, which share the same footprint as the cups, should be placed next to each other. The cardboard sleeves, which are the shortest item, should be placed in the front. It's important to consider the quantity of each item and ensure that the organizer can hold a matching number of lids and enough sleeves to make sense.

Next, I bring the sketch into a 3D modeling software like Fusion 360. Begin by creating a circle for the lid to sit on and add the necessary wall thickness for 3D printing. Then, create a box for the sleeves at the front and add the same wall thickness. Adding details like thumb cutouts makes it easier to access the items inside and potentially even display a logo on the sleeves.

Finally, take into account any cosmetic details such as sharp edges that may need to be smoothed out, as well as any ‘maintenance’ or cleaning details like removing hard-to-reach crevices.

Making your own custom cup organizer can be a practical and visually pleasing solution for those looking to keep their cups organized and easily accessible. By following these steps and considering the specific needs and preferences, it's possible to create a functional and personalized organizer.
