DIY Christmas Ornaments

Are you tired of buying the same old store-bought ornaments every year? Do you want to add a personal touch to your holiday decorations by creating something unique and meaningful for your family? If so, then making your own ornaments might be the perfect project for you! In this article, we will walk you through a few easy steps to make your own ornaments that will last for years to come. Whether you're an experienced artist or a beginner, you can make beautiful and special ornaments that will add a special touch to your holiday décor. So grab your paint set, gather your family, and let's get started!

Stuff I used:
-Thin pieces of wood (my scrap bin had some craft plywood, poplar, and pine).
-A scroll saw (could use a jigsaw or hand saw)
-Drill
-Sandpaper
-Acrylic paint (I'm sure any paint would suffice)

*No saw? You might use cardboard and scissors. Follow the same steps but coat with modge podge after paint dries.

Step 1: preparation, preparation

Before you start drawing and cutting out your ornaments, it's important to prepare the wood. First, use sandpaper to smooth out any rough or uneven surfaces on the wood. This will help to ensure that the paint goes on smoothly and evenly. If there are any loose fibers on the wood, be sure to sand them off or the paint may lift them up.

Step 2: Draw a picture

Now it's time to get creative! Choose your favorite characters, animals, or items and draw them out on your wood pieces. Don't forget to draw the hole where you will hang the ornament. You can use a pencil to sketch out your designs, or you can use a thin marker or pen if you prefer.

Step 3: Cut it out

Using a saw or a pair of scissors, carefully cut around the outline of each ornament. If you are using a saw, be sure to use caution and follow all safety guidelines. After cutting out the ornaments, drill a hole in each one where you marked the hanging hole. If the edges of your ornaments are rough or jagged, you can sand them down to smooth them out.

Step4: Paint It

Now it's time to bring your ornaments to life with color! Grab your paint set and have fun painting your ornaments. You can work on one ornament at a time, or you can stack cut multiple pieces of wood and paint them all at once. If you have kids, this is a great opportunity to involve them in the process and make it a fun family activity.

Step5: Way to Hang

After the paint has dried, you can add ribbon, string, or a paperclip to hang your ornaments. You can also use small hooks or other hardware if you prefer. Once your ornaments are complete, hang them on your tree or use them to decorate your home for the holidays.

Remember to have fun and be creative as you make your own handmade ornaments. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, these ornaments are sure to be a special addition to your holiday decorations.

Step 4: 2014 Update

This year I decided to add a Pokemon to the family.
